 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Visitor dies after entering restricted area of Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii National Park  

   

A 33-year-old Hawaii resident has died after entering a restricted area near the Kilauea volcano within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. The National Park Service said the incident occurred on Feb. 26 on the east side of Kilauea caldera, an area closed to the public due to unstable terrain and extreme hazards.

Search and rescue crews worked overnight in steep, dangerous conditions before locating the individual the following day. He was airlifted from the area but was pronounced dead at a nearby medical facility. Officials are withholding the person’s identity for privacy reasons. The Kilauea caldera features unstable cliffs and volcanic features, particularly near the HalemaÊ»umaÊ»u crater rim, and closures are in place to protect visitors from landslides, cracks, and tremors. The volcano last erupted on Feb. 15, 2026, and future activity is expected between March 10 and 16, though that window may change. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and urge visitors to remain in open, designated areas.
