 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe. DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND PROBES VIRAL VIDEO ALLEGING ASSAULT OF WOMAN; DELTA STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE ORDERS INVESTIGATION


The Delta State Police Command is aware of a viral video circulating on X and other social media platforms alleging that some police officers assaulted a woman and subjected her to over forty strokes of cane. The video captures the victim narrating her ordeal.


The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command has directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations. Preliminary steps have commenced to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish the identities of the officers involved. The matter has been referred to the appropriate investigative unit for discreet handling, while efforts are ongoing to ensure that all personnel implicated are identified and brought to account. In light of this, the command urges the victim and the activist to please visit the command and provide all necessary information that will help to identify the officers alleged and also aid the ongoing investigation.


The Command unequivocally condemns any form of assault, brutality, or abuse of citizens. Such conduct is inconsistent with the ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force. The Commissioner of Police reiterates that the Command will not tolerate any action that violates the rights and dignity of members of the public. Any officer found culpable will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act and other extant regulations. He emphasised that under his leadership, professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights remain non-negotiable.


The Commissioner of Police assures the victim of the Command’s commitment to justice, including confidentiality, protection, and full institutional support throughout the investigative process. Members of the public who may have useful information, eyewitness accounts, or additional video evidence are encouraged to come forward to aid the investigation.
