 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Former Governor Ramalan Yero Declares Senate Bid For Kaduna North


Former Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has formally announced his intention to contest for the Senate seat representing Kaduna North Senatorial District.


In a statement released on Saturday, Yero said his decision followed “overwhelming calls, encouragement, and expressions of confidence” from constituents across the district. 


He described the move as a response to a collective demand for leadership and pledged to serve with humility and dedication if elected.


The former governor also revealed that he recently received a delegation of local government chairmen from the senatorial district, who paid him a solidarity visit and unanimously endorsed his candidacy. 


He characterized the endorsement as a strong sign of unity and trust, noting that he considers it a significant responsibility.


Yero expressed gratitude to the people of Kaduna North for their support and urged stakeholders, political actors, and residents to remain peaceful and united as the political process unfolds.


He emphasized the importance of collective effort in achieving development and inclusiveness across the district.


He also commended the current Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, for his leadership and commitment to the progress of the state.


Highlighting the importance of leadership as a trust, Yero called for prayers and support, stressing that his ambition is driven by a desire to promote justice, fairness, and community development.
