 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Former student opens fire at Turkish high school, wounds 16 before killing himself


A former student opened fire at a vocational high school in southeastern Turkey on Tuesday, injuring at least 16 people before taking his own life, according to officials.

The 18-year-old attacker used a shotgun to fire randomly inside the school in Siverek in Sanliurfa province before briefly taking cover inside the building. Authorities said he later died by suicide using the same weapon after being cornered by police.

Officials said those injured included 10 students, four teachers, a cafeteria worker, and a police officer. Several victims were treated locally, while five students and teachers with more serious injuries were transferred to a hospital in the provincial capital.

The motive for the attack is still unknown, and such incidents are considered rare in Turkey. Authorities said all students were evacuated from the school as police units responded and worked to secure the building.

Video from the scene showed students running out of the school and gathering outside as emergency responders arrived. A full investigation into the shooting is underway.
