Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Gov Uba Sani Assures NYSC Corps Members Of Security, Welfare In Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state of adequate security, urging them to remain vigilant and conduct themselves responsibly throughout their service year.

The governor gave the assurance on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members at the temporary orientation camp, Government College, Kaduna.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Barrister Esther Ibrahim, Governor Sani congratulated the corps members on completing their academic programmes and encouraged them to approach the orientation exercise with dedication and purpose.

He described the orientation course as an important stage for building discipline, leadership qualities, and national unity, stressing that corps members should make the most of the programme as preparation for the responsibilities of national service.

Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and safety of corps members, noting that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure their protection across the state.

He also reminded them that security is a shared responsibility, urging them to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

“Security is a collective responsibility. You must remain conscious of your environment and promptly report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities,” he said.

The governor further encouraged the corps members to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a practical avenue for self-reliance, especially in the face of limited white-collar job opportunities.

Earlier, the Kaduna State Coordinator of the NYSC, Efeke Murna Dadaza, revealed that a total of 2,315 prospective corps members were sworn in for the exercise, including those redeployed from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to her, the figure comprises 901 male and 1,414 female corps members.

She commended the corps members for their orderly conduct during registration and advised them to strictly obey camp rules while actively participating in all camp activities designed to prepare them physically, mentally, and emotionally for the service year.

Dadaza also appreciated the Kaduna State Government for its continuous support to the NYSC scheme, particularly in the area of infrastructure improvement at the temporary orientation camp.
