 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. A fatal road accident in Nasarawa State has claimed the lives of three siblings in a heartbreaking incident that has shaken the Ara community. The victims were reportedly struck by a vehicle that lost control along the Keffi–Nasarawa highway.


The tragedy has sparked grief and renewed calls for improved road safety measures in the area.


A devastating motor accident has claimed the lives of three siblings in Kemu, Nasarawa State, throwing the Ago community in Ara, Nasarawa Local Government Area, into mourning.


According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred along the busy Keffi–Nasarawa Road when a vehicle reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The driver veered off the road and rammed into the children, who were said to be standing by the roadside.


Sources within the community disclosed that the victims had been returning from the farm and stopped near a filling station in Kemu. They were reportedly waiting for their brother, who had gone to purchase fuel before continuing their journey home.


In a tragic twist, the brother returned to the scene only to find his siblings lying lifeless.


The incident has sent shockwaves across Ara community and surrounding areas, with residents expressing deep sorrow and anger over what many described as a preventable tragedy.


Community members have called on relevant authorities to urgently improve safety measures along the Keffi–Nasarawa highway, particularly in accident-prone zones. They stressed the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to curb reckless driving.


As sympathisers continue to mourn with the bereaved family, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent dangers on Nigerian roads and the urgent need for proactive safety interventions.
