Cuba’s president rejects calls to step down amid escalating tensions with Trump administration Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said he will not step down from office, rejecting suggestions that he should resign during an interview conducted in Havana in his first appearance with a U.S. broadcast network. When asked whether he would consider leaving office to help stabilize the country, Díaz-Canel pushed back sharply, saying Cuba’s leadership is not chosen by the United States and insisting the nation operates as a sovereign state. He added that stepping down “is not part of our vocabulary,” and defended Cuba’s political system as one based on domestic elections at the local level.  Kaduna South Senatorial Aspirant, Engr. Michael Ayuba Auta Withdraws, Endorses Senator Danjuma La’ah

Kaduna South Senatorial aspirant, Engr. Michael Ayuba Auta, has formally withdrawn his candidacy and thrown his support behind Distinguished Senator Danjuma La’ah.

The announcement was made following an emergency meeting of the APC Southern Kaduna Aspirants Consultative Forum (SKACF), held at New Choice Multipurpose Hall in Kafanchan.

The meeting convened key APC stakeholders from across Southern Kaduna, including aspirants for the Senate, House of Representatives, State House of Assembly, as well as party leaders at ward, local government, and zonal levels.

Under the leadership of Senator La’ah, the forum focused on promoting unity, mutual understanding, and safeguarding the collective political interests of Southern Kaduna ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A major discussion point was the circulation of unfounded rumors suggesting that certain aspirants had been granted “automatic tickets.”

The forum dismissed such claims as false, reiterating that candidacy recognition in the APC can only be attained through consensus or direct primaries, mechanisms that guarantee fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity.

The meeting also expressed confidence in the leadership of Kaduna State Governor, Malam Uba Sani, describing him as fair, just, and committed to upholding due process within the party.

Additionally, the forum reaffirmed support for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his “Renewed Hope Agenda,” emphasizing the loyalty of Southern Kaduna APC members to the party’s leadership at all levels.

Speaking at the forum, Engr. Auta stated that his decision to withdraw was motivated by the desire for unity, peace, and the collective progress of Southern Kaduna.

“I remain committed to deploying my strength, influence, and resources in support of this shared goal,” he said, calling on his supporters to align with this position to ensure victory for the people.

The forum concluded with a renewed emphasis on collective success over individual ambitions, reinforcing the belief that Southern Kaduna’s progress hinges on unity and shared vision.
