LSSC ANNOUNCES FREE ENTRY FOR WBA AFRICA TITLE FIGHT

The Lagos State Sport Commission (LSSC) in a concerted effort at promoting the boxing game at the grassroots has announced that it will cover the full cost of gate takings for the upcoming title fight between two city rivals from Mushin and Agege in the State at the National Stadium in Surulere.

The boxing match, a WBA Africa Lightweight title clash christened, The Battle of the Unbeatens’ will be between Taiwo Agbaje “Eshepo’’ from Mushin and Tunde Tosin “Sojar Boy’’ from Agege on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 5 PM.

For ease of obtaining the tickets, boxing fans have been enjoined to register on this portal: https:forms.gle/ETRsSVpfssuAgW1r6 on or before the close of registration on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

The Director-General of the Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, in a release, said that the Lagos State Government's decision to provide free tickets was in line with the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to youth development, creating and developing sports interest in the grassroots as well as providing sports excellence in the state.

In his words,  "We are not simply filling seats; we are deliberately creating an ecosystem where our youth can see a viable, lucrative trajectory for their talents. When young lads watched two homegrown fighters from unexplored gyms compete for a WBA title on local soil, the psychological shift was profound.

“This ticket drive is a calculated investment in that inspiration, aligning with our broader mandate to institutionalise grassroots sports development and make elite athletic excellence accessible to the very communities that birth it."

Commending the state government's support for the local derby, the Chairman of De Lad’s Boxing Promotions, the promoter of the fight, Alhaji Wahid Alabi, lauds the broader significance of the partnership with the Lagos State Sports Commission in shaping both the event and its reach.

“This fight is meant to resonate beyond the ring, and the support from the Lagos State Sports Commission has helped us take it back to the communities where boxing truly lives.

“Opening access to fans from places like Mushin and Agege will strengthen the connection between the fighters and the people who have followed their journey from the beginning. That kind of atmosphere matters, not just for this event, but for the growth of boxing as a sport that the public can truly own”, he stated.

Alhaji Alabi averred that at the grassroots level, the impact was already being felt. Coaches and community organisers see the initiative as a recognition of years of work carried out with limited visibility. For many within these circles, the opportunity to witness a major title fight live represents both validation and motivation.

A veteran local coach from the Mainland area, Mr. Daodu Abdulfatai, said, “For years, these boys have fought in the shadows, hoping for a breakthrough. To have the state actively bring the community into the stadium to watch them is unprecedented. It validates the sweat of the grassroots.”
