Patronize Nawfia Neuropsychiatric Hospital, not Quacks - Administrator

By Ebele Egoh

The Anambra State Hospital Administrator, Dr. Frank Ifeanaeme, has advised the public to always patronize Neuropsychiatric hospital Nawfia for quality healthcare services, noting various health services that the hospital renders that patients might not see somewhere else.

He said this during a routine monthly supervision at the facility to know whether the patients are receiving the best services from the  health professionals.

Dr Ifeanaeme was happy seeing the relationship that exit  between workers and patients, commending the head of the hospital for creating such wonderful environment .

"I witnessed the companionate care, the way the staff interact with patients, team work and the professionalism in carrying out your duties, I am impressed and encourage you to keep it up.

He cautioned the staff to stop diverting patients to other places where the quality of the services  rendered are not guaranteed.

"Most places that you refer them are not registered, and the owners are not qualified, so instead of patients getting well they get worse and they will still come back to the government owned hospitals.

"The state government will not tolerate any of their staff aiding the treatment of patients in the hands of quacks which might result in death, or worse the situation.

"This government has  employed more consultants at Neuropsychiatric Hospital Nawfia and qualified doctors, nurses, clinical psychologists, well equipped laboratory and others. Their services are cheap and patients are testifying their quick recoveries," he said.

He mentioned some of the services one can receive to include; mood disorders; depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, psycho disorders, trauma, substance abuse and eating disorders.

He assured them that some of their challenges will be solved at management level  but they should keep doing the good job.

He also praised the staff for being at their duty posts attending to patients but frowned at them for not wearing their uniform and name tags.

The Doctor in charge of neuropsychiatric hospital  Nawfia, Dr Christopher  Okonkwo, stated some of the challenges facing the hospital to include, shortage of nurses, and security men, as well as lack of accommodation for the patients.

He  promised to work harder to see that the efforts of the state government to seeing that residents of Anambra get the best health services in government hospitals will be met.

Two  of the patients interviewed promised not to come back again  to the hospital, thanking God that they are now well and will desist from taking hard drugs and other substances.
