 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  PRESIDENT TINUBU  CONGRATULATES PROFESSOR EMERITUS ABIOLA ODEJIDE ON HER 80TH BIRTHDAY


President Bola Tinubu has extended his best wishes to Professor Emeritus Abiola Odejide on her 80th birthday, commending her remarkable achievements, scholarship, and service to the nation.


Prof Abiola Odejide is the first female Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan between 2004 and 2006 and the first Professor of Children’s Literature in Nigeria. She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters. 


A statement by Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, indicates  that President Tinubu acknowledges Emeritus Professor  Odejide’s outstanding contributions to academia, particularly in English and Literary Studies, where she has distinguished herself as a scholar of global repute.

While also extolling her pioneering role in advancing gender advocacy, cultural development, and educational excellence President Tinubu notes that 

Professor Odejide's work in Communication and Language Arts has shaped generations, and her advocacy for gender mainstreaming has left an indelible mark on the soul of our academic community.


"Her work reflects an enduring commitment to nation-building and the promotion of values that foster unity, progress, and enlightenment.


The President in expressing his belief that as a trailblazer and role model her legacy will continue to inspire women and young scholars across the country in pursuit of knowledge, leadership, and national development with courage and integrity. 


He wished her good health, peace, and fulfilment in the years ahead.
