 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  WAPA PERMANENT SECRETARY INDUCTED AS LASTMA MAYOR


… Pledges Support For Road Safety, Traffic Management In Lagos State


The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Rianat Onigbanjo has been inducted as Mayor by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). 


The induction ceremony included the presentation of a manual containing important contact details of zonal heads and official lines for reporting traffic-related issues across the State. She was also decorated as a LASTMA Mayor.


During the event, Comptroller Awoyemi J. A, who led the team, briefed the Permanent Secretary on the various ranks and responsibilities within the Agency, using the manual as a guide. He also explained how to effectively utilise the communication channels provided to support traffic management efforts and enhance road safety awareness.


In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Onigbanjo expressed her gratitude for the honour, describing it as an opportunity to contribute to safer and more organised roads in Lagos State. She noted that the recognition comes with greater responsibility and a call to support ongoing traffic management efforts.


She appreciated the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi and other key stakeholders for their commitment to improving the State’s transport system. She also commended the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, General Manager of LASTMA. Mr. Bakare Oki, and the entire team for the initiative.


Mrs. Onigbanjo reaffirmed her commitment to promoting road safety, discipline, and responsible road use. She pledged to support initiatives that will enhance traffic management and ensure a more efficient transportation system across Lagos State.
