 The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Ngodo Isuochi Chapter, has issued a strong warning to the institution’s management, threatening to petition anti-graft agencies including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for a borehole project.

In a petition addressed to the Rector, Dr. Paul-Darlington Ibezim Ndubuisi, and signed by ASUP Chairman, Comrade Ador Osondu, and Secretary, Comrade Onyeneke Ejike, the union detailed six key resolutions reached at its recent congress held on Friday.

The union expressed serious concern over the suspected channeling of funds approved for the construction and installation of a borehole facility into a personal account. It described the alleged act, if proven, as “a flagrant breach of public financial management principles and a criminal offence under extant Nigerian statutes.”

The letter demanded that management immediately commission an independent audit of the borehole project funds and provide the union with a comprehensive financial statement. It warned that failure to comply would leave the union with no option but to formally report the matter to the EFCC, ICPC, and other relevant authorities.

“The Congress of this Union has passed a resolution strongly condemning the alleged diversion or transfer of funds approved and earmarked for the construction and installation of a borehole facility at this institution into a personal account,” the petition read.

Beyond the borehole controversy, the union raised several other grievances concerning staff welfare and statutory obligations. These include:

- Refusal to facilitate National Housing Fund (NHF) Staff Sensitization and Enrolment

- Refusal to facilitate National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Enrolment for staff

- Non-remittance of union check-off dues from February 2026 to date

- Alleged diversion of staff welfare packages for 2023, 2024, and 2025

- Absence of essential drugs and medical supplies at the Polytechnic health centre

The union has given the management a 21-day ultimatum to address all six issues or face industrial action. However, it expressed readiness for dialogue and negotiation within the stipulated period.

“We demand that management takes immediate and concrete steps to resolve all the above issues within 21 days of receiving this letter. Failure to comply will compel the Union to activate all lawful trade union mechanisms to press home our demands, including industrial action,” the statement added.
