Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia on Saturday received the 2027 governorship expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress, purchased on his behalf by two organised groups in Benue State.

The presentation was made at the Government House in Makurdi by representatives of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Benue State Chapter, and the Benue State Motorcycle Hirers Association.

According to statements at the event, the groups said their action reflects confidence in the governor’s leadership and performance in office.

Responding, Governor Alia expressed appreciation for what he described as a strong show of support. He stated that he was “overwhelmed with joy” and thanked both organisations for the gesture, pledging to build on his administration’s achievements if given another mandate.

The development comes as political stakeholders begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections. While party primaries are yet to be officially scheduled, support groups across states have reportedly started mobilising around preferred candidates within party structures.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners and the Benue State Motorcycle Hirers Association are influential grassroots groups in the state, often involved in advocacy on welfare and economic matters.
