DSS RELEASES WRONGFULLY DETAINED YOBE YOUTH, OFFERS ₦2 MILLION FOR REINTEGRATION

The Department of State Services (DSS), under the leadership of Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, has released a young man, Mr. Ya’u Mohammed from Gashua town in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State, after investigations confirmed that he had no connection to any wrongdoing.

In what has been described as a rare humanitarian gesture, the DSS also provided the young man with ₦2 million to support his reintegration into society and help him establish a livelihood for himself and his family.

The Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), disclosed this during a visit to the DSS Yobe State Command Headquarters in Damaturu, where the young man was formally handed over to him before reuniting with his family.

General Abdulsalam explained that his visit to the Command was aimed at ascertaining the circumstances surrounding the detention and eventual release of Mr. Ya’u Mohammed.

According to him, further investigations and reviews by the Service confirmed that the young man had no involvement in the alleged offence for which he was earlier detained.

The retired General described the development as unprecedented in his decades of public service, noting that he had never witnessed a situation where a suspect was not only released after being cleared, but also provided with financial support for reintegration.

He stated that the gesture reflects a deliberate commitment by the Director General of the DSS to promote justice, compassion, and rehabilitation.

General Abdulsalam also urged other security agencies to continue upholding the rule of law and respecting fundamental human rights in order to strengthen public trust and cooperation.

Responding shortly after his release, Mr. Ya’u Mohammed expressed gratitude to Almighty God, describing the experience as an act of destiny and faith.

He also appreciated the Director General of the DSS for the kindness and support extended to him, promising to make judicious use of the funds provided to build a sustainable means of livelihood and support his family.

His father, Alhaji Muhammadu, was visibly emotional and delighted during the reunion with his son.

He expressed heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of the DSS for what he described as a compassionate and commendable intervention.
