Rep. Chuck Edwards withdraws reelection bid after House Ethics Committee finds evidence of misconduct Republican Rep. Chuck Edwards of North Carolina announced Wednesday that he is ending his reelection campaign, days after the House Ethics Committee said it found “substantial evidence” that he violated House rules involving sexual harassment and a hostile workplace. Edwards said he will complete his current term in Congress but will not seek another term representing North Carolina’s 11th District. He said serving Western North Carolina has been the honor of his life and thanked supporters for their trust. Edwards, who has served in the House since 2023, was expected to face Democratic nominee Jamie Ager in the November general election. ISRAELI AIRSTRIKE KILLS HAMAS INTERIOR MINISTRY OFFICER IN GAZA AS CEASEFIRE VIOLENCE CONTINUES, HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY. (PHOTO).

Israeli airstrike kills Hamas Interior Ministry officer in Gaza as ceasefire violence continues, health officials say

An Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza killed a senior Hamas Interior Ministry officer on Wednesday, according to health officials and Hamas sources, in the latest violence amid ongoing tensions despite a ceasefire.

Medics said the strike hit a vehicle in the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, killing Naseem al-Kalazani, a colonel in the Hamas-run police force who led an anti-narcotics unit in the region. Officials said at least 17 other people were wounded in the attack.

Hamas sources confirmed Kalazani’s role in the police force, which operates under the group’s Interior Ministry.

The Israeli military said it carried out a strike in al-Mawasi targeting a Hamas operative, without providing further details.

Later the same day, another airstrike in Gaza City’s Al-Zeitoun neighborhood killed at least three additional Palestinians, according to hospital officials, bringing the reported death toll for Wednesday to at least four.

The strikes come amid continued violence in Gaza despite a ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025. Health officials in Gaza say hundreds of Palestinians have been killed since the truce began, while Israel says its forces have also suffered casualties in attacks during the same period.

Israel has said its ongoing operations are aimed at preventing militant attacks and targeting Hamas infrastructure. Hamas and Israeli officials have each accused the other of violating the ceasefire.

The broader conflict, which began in October 2023, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths in Gaza, according to local health authorities, with most of the casualties reported to be civilians.
