The Princess of Wales is preparing for a significant milestone in her recovery, as she will travel to Italy on May 13 and 14 for her first official overseas engagement since her cancer diagnosis.
The visit to Reggio Emilia will focus on her early childhood campaign, which she launched in 2021 through the Centre for Early Childhood to highlight the importance of a child’s formative years.
Kensington Palace shared that she is eager to see how the Reggio Emilia approach blends nature and nurturing relationships to support children’s development.
This marks her first work-related trip abroad in more than three years, following her last official visit to the United States in December 2022 for Prince William’s Earthshot Prize ceremony.
While she has traveled privately for events such as the Rugby World Cup and the Crown Prince of Jordan’s wedding, none were considered royal duties.
Kate publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, explaining that a major abdominal surgery earlier that year had uncovered the illness.
Though the specific type of cancer was not disclosed, she completed chemotherapy by September 2024, describing the journey as deeply challenging for her family.
By January 2025, Kate announced that her cancer was in remission and emphasized her focus on recovery and adjusting to a “new normal.”
She acknowledged that the road ahead remains long but expressed optimism about the future, thanking the public for their support.
Now, with her health stabilized, she is looking forward to resuming her royal responsibilities, beginning with her upcoming engagement in Italy, which underscores her commitment to early childhood education and her determination to move forward after a difficult chapter.
