 U.S equipment, experts arrive at Kenya Ebola facility despite court order, protests Around 20 flights carrying medical equipment and specialist staff have landed at a base in Kenya where the U.S. ​government is continuing to build an Ebola quarantine facility despite protests and Kenyan court orders blocking it, according to flight data and officials. At least two ‌people have been killed in protests in the central Kenyan town of Nanyuki, home to the Kenyan air force base where the U.S. military is building a 50-bed unit for Americans who might be exposed to the virus, which has infected hundreds in Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. A Kenyan court first ordered work on the Ebola facility to be suspended on May ​28, yet U.S. military flights into Nanyuki continued in the days that followed, according to data from flight-tracking service Flightradar24.  LAGOS CELEBRATES 2026 CHILDREN'S DAY WITH THANKSGIVING SERVICE


The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, held a special Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, 24th May, 2026, at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja, to commemorate the Year 2026 Children’s Day Celebration, themed: “Listen to the Future, Stand Up for Children’s Rights.”  


The Thanksgiving Service formed part of the activities lined up for the 2026 Children’s Day celebration in Lagos State.


Speaking at the event, the wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, stressed the importance of giving children a fair hearing and creating an enabling environment where their voices can be heard and respected. She noted that the theme of this year’s celebration serves as a reminder to governments, parents, guardians, and society at large to prioritise the welfare, protection, and rights of every child.

    

The wife of the Governor, who was represented by Dr. (Mrs.) Olayemi Oke –Osantintolu said that children represent the future of society and must be supported through quality education, moral upbringing, proper healthcare, and opportunities that will help them attain their full potential.


Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu advised the children to be diligent at all times, saying, " Focus, prayerful, resilient, trustworthy and steadfast in your academics. Success is built on patience, integrity, and determination to excel”.


She further encouraged parents, teachers, guardians and caregivers to pay closer attention to the concerns, aspirations, and emotional well-being of children, while also promoting values that foster confidence, discipline, and responsible leadership among the younger generation.


The event also featured prayers for peace, progress, and continued development in Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole, which was led by the Chaplain, Revd, Dr. Olurotimi Taiwo and Rev. Dr. Dele Ajayi.


The colourful and spiritually uplifting event brought together education stakeholders, religious leaders, teachers, students, parents, and well-wishers in celebration of children across the five divisions of the State, including  Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education; Dr. (Mrs.) Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District 1; Mr. Durotimi Adeboye, CEO Global Education Media, and other Directors in the MBSE.
