Netflix’s Virgin River actor, Stewart McLean found dead in British Columbia, death ruled a homicide by police

Canadian actor Stewart McLean, known for his role in Netflix’s “Virgin River” and other television projects, has been found dead in Lions Bay, British Columbia, with authorities confirming they are investigating his death as a homicide.

McLean, 45, was reported missing on May 18 after last being seen three days earlier on May 15 at his residence in the coastal community northwest of Vancouver. Police later located his remains in the area, and investigators say evidence gathered during the missing persons case led them to determine the circumstances were suspicious. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed the case is now being treated as a homicide, with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team taking over the investigation.

Officials have not released details about what evidence led to the homicide determination, but say multiple agencies are involved, including forensic specialists. Investigators are reviewing available surveillance footage and conducting interviews in an effort to establish a timeline of McLean’s final movements.

McLean’s talent agency confirmed his death in a public tribute, describing him as a dedicated and talented performer who was well respected in the industry. The agency noted that colleagues and casting professionals had expressed condolences, calling him a consistently professional and well-liked presence on set.

His acting credits include a single-episode appearance in Netflix’s “Virgin River,” as well as roles in “Murder in a Small Town,” “Happy Face,” and the Lifetime film “The Killer Inside: The Ruth Finley Story.” Earlier in his career, he appeared in series such as “Arrow,” “Travelers,” and “Beyond.” He was also occasionally credited as a producer in addition to his acting work.
