 Trial begins of Central African ex-president Bozize over war crimes A UN-backed court in the the Central African Republic will on Tuesday begin the trial in absentia of former president Francois Bozize, over crimes against humanity committed between 2009 and 2013. The alleged crimes committed by members of Bozize's security forces include murder, enforced disappearance, torture and rape. Bozize, 79, who seized power in a 2003 coup before being overthrown 10 years later by rebels, has been living in exile in Guinea-Bissau since March 2023. But three of his former senior military officers, Eugene Barret Ngaikosset, Vianney Semndiro and Firmin Junior Danboy, are all in pre-trial detention in the Central African Republic. POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER/ARMED ROBBER; RECOVERS TWO (2) AK-47 RIFLES, ONE (1) BERETTA PISTOL AND SIXTY-NINE (69) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION


The Delta State Police Command has recorded further breakthroughs in ongoing intelligence-led operations targeting kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal arms proliferation across the State.


1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER/ARMED ROBBER; RECOVERY OF ONE (1) AK-47 RIFLE AND SIXTY-THREE (63) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION


On 29 April 2026 at about 2010 hours, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Shehu Malami (male, 45 years) at Ogor Market, Ughelli. The suspect later led operatives to his hideout in Agbarha-Otor, where one (1) AK-47 rifle and sixty-three (63) rounds of live ammunition were recovered. Preliminary Investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing, Ughelli, Agbarho, Sapele, Warri and other areas in the State. Effort to arrest other members of his gang is ongoing.


2. RECOVERY OF ONE (1) AK-47 RIFLE, ONE (1) BERETTA PISTOL AND SIX (6) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION


On 02 May 2026 at about 0835 hours,  the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations,  acting on credible intelligence, mobilised and led operatives of Buffalo, Crack, and Operation Delta Shield (ODS) squads to a bush near the Customs Check Point along Benin–Asaba Expressway. A search of the area led to the recovery of one (1) AK-47 rifle, six (6) rounds of live ammunition, and one (1) Beretta pistol. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to arrest the suspects.


The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the tempo against criminal elements. He also urged residents to monitor, and report suspicious persons or movement in their environment promptly to the Police, while assuring them that their identities will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
