 LAWMA SCALES UP ENVIRONMENTAL ENFORCEMENT, SEALS DEFAULTING MARKETS, SHOPS IN IKOTUN-IGANDO … Issues Fresh Compliance Notices Along Ojuelegba-Lawanson-Itire Corridor The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified its ongoing environmental compliance enforcement across Lagos, sealing markets, shopping complexes and commercial premises along the Ikotun-Igando axis, while issuing notices of intention to seal markets, shops and plazas along the Ojuelegba-Lawanson-Itire corridor. The enforcement exercise, carried out on Saturday by LAWMA's Project WISE West team, targeted commercial premises along the LASU-Igando Road corridor in Alimosho Local Government Area, following persistent indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the road median despite repeated default notices, sustained environmental advocacy and notices of intention to seal. POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER/ARMED ROBBER; RECOVERS TWO (2) AK-47 RIFLES, ONE (1) BERETTA PISTOL AND SIXTY-NINE (69) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION


The Delta State Police Command has recorded further breakthroughs in ongoing intelligence-led operations targeting kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal arms proliferation across the State.


1. ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER/ARMED ROBBER; RECOVERY OF ONE (1) AK-47 RIFLE AND SIXTY-THREE (63) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION


On 29 April 2026 at about 2010 hours, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Shehu Malami (male, 45 years) at Ogor Market, Ughelli. The suspect later led operatives to his hideout in Agbarha-Otor, where one (1) AK-47 rifle and sixty-three (63) rounds of live ammunition were recovered. Preliminary Investigation revealed that the suspect is part of a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing, Ughelli, Agbarho, Sapele, Warri and other areas in the State. Effort to arrest other members of his gang is ongoing.


2. RECOVERY OF ONE (1) AK-47 RIFLE, ONE (1) BERETTA PISTOL AND SIX (6) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION


On 02 May 2026 at about 0835 hours,  the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations,  acting on credible intelligence, mobilised and led operatives of Buffalo, Crack, and Operation Delta Shield (ODS) squads to a bush near the Customs Check Point along Benin–Asaba Expressway. A search of the area led to the recovery of one (1) AK-47 rifle, six (6) rounds of live ammunition, and one (1) Beretta pistol. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to arrest the suspects.


The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the tempo against criminal elements. He also urged residents to monitor, and report suspicious persons or movement in their environment promptly to the Police, while assuring them that their identities will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
