 INEC COMMENCES DISTRIBUTION OF ELECTORAL MATERIALS FOR SENATORIAL BYE ELECTION IN RIVERS STATE The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Rivers state has commenced the distribution of electorial materials ahead of Saturday June 20 senatorial election for Rivers South East Senatorial District. While distributing the materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner  Johnson Alalibo Senikien assured of a free fair and transparent process. Four political parties are participating in the bye-election holding in seven  local government areas, with a total registered voters put at 858, 573 across 1,629 polling units. The bye election aims to fill the vacuum created, following the death of  Barry Mpigi, who was representing the Federal constituency.

 She will comply with the law - Britney Spears reaches plea deal in DUI case, placed on probation


Britney Spears has resolved her DUI case after agreeing to a plea deal in Ventura County court.


Her lawyer, Michael A. Goldstein, entered a guilty plea on her behalf to a “wet and reckless” charge during a hearing on May 4. Spears did not attend the court session in person.


The case stems from her March 4 arrest in Ventura, California. Following the agreement, she was sentenced to 12 months probation and one day in jail, with credit already applied for time served. 


The court also imposed a fine of $571 and required ongoing mental health treatment, including weekly sessions with a psychologist and twice-monthly visits to a psychiatrist. 


Her vehicle was also authorized for search related to alcohol and drugs.


Prosecutors had previously indicated the likelihood of a reduced charge, noting there was no accident, no injuries, and a low bl00d alc0hol level at the time of her arrest. 


The “wet reckless” plea is a standard resolution in similar circumstances, involving probation and mandatory safety and education requirements.


Under this arrangement, she will also be required to complete a DUI education program as part of the court conditions.


Days before the hearing, Spears had already left a voluntary treatment facility she had entered earlier in the month.


Following the arrest, a representative for Spears described the incident as “completely inexcusable,” adding that she intended to comply fully with the legal process and focus on taking necessary steps forward. 


The statement also expressed hope that the situation would lead to meaningful change and support for her.


A source close to the singer told PEOPLE that her two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, played an important role in encouraging her to seek help. 


According to the insider, both wanted their mother to prioritise her well-being and health.
