Trump Health Report Explains Cause of Bruising on Hands After Physical Exam

New details from President Donald Trump’s latest physical exam have been made public, including an explanation for the bruising that has been visible on his hands over the past year.

The report, released on May 29 following his check-up at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on May 26, was carried out as part of a “comprehensive preventive evaluation” led by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Trump is 79.

In a post on Truth Social the same day, Trump said the examination went “PERFECTLY,” and later authorized the release of the medical summary.

According to the physician, Capt. Sean Barbabella, the bruising on Trump’s hands is linked to routine factors rather than any serious condition. The report states it is “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation” caused by frequent handshaking, combined with the use of aspirin taken for cardiovascular prevention.

The physician added that this is a known and common side effect, noting that no abnormal growths or suspicious skin changes were detected during the evaluation.

While presidents are not required by law to release full medical reports, there is a long-standing tradition of sharing at least a summary of health findings.

These reports are typically reviewed through the White House and approved before being made public.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt previously attributed the bruising to Trump’s high level of public interaction and constant handshaking during daily engagements.

Those comments came amid online speculation after images showed discoloration on his hand, at times covered with makeup.

Earlier medical updates from 2025 also supported this explanation, with his physician stating that aspirin use and frequent handshaking were the likely causes.

In addition to routine checks, Trump also underwent cardiovascular and abdominal imaging at Walter Reed in October 2025.

He later commented that he regretted the scan being public, saying it had given critics “a little ammunition,” although his doctor confirmed the results showed no abnormalities and were carried out to rule out any heart-related issues.
