 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 Abia State Emerges Champion as Maiden South-East Amateur Boxing Championship Ends in Umuahia


The maiden edition of the South-East Amateur Boxing Championship (male and female categories) concluded on Friday in Umuahia, with the host state, Abia, emerging as overall champions.


Abia State dominated the competition, clinching eight gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. Enugu State finished second with four gold and four silver medals, while Imo State placed third with one gold, one silver, and five bronze medals. Anambra State came fourth with one gold and two bronze medals, and Ebonyi State finished with two silver and three bronze medals.


Declaring the championship closed, the Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, commended the five participating states for displaying a high level of sportsmanship throughout the event.


Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Jane Igwe, the commissioner stated that Governor Alex Otti’s administration is committed to developing grassroots sports to discover and nurture future champions for Abia State, the South-East region, and Nigeria at large.


“We didn’t just witness boxing matches; we witnessed the future of Nigerian boxing unfolding before our very eyes,” the commissioner said.


Earlier, the Abia State Director of Sports, Obioma George, expressed appreciation to all participating states, coaches, officials, referees, and organisers for their contributions to the success of the maiden championship. He commended the athletes for their determination and wished all delegates a safe journey back to their respective states.


The star of the tournament, Chidiebere Chukwuemeka of Abia State, expressed his ambition to represent Nigeria at major international competitions, including the Olympic Games.
