 Beloved actor Ras Ajai, 47, 'shot dead' while walking down a street A beloved film star and musician has di£d. Ras Ajai, whose real name was Brian Todd Boucher, played JLP political enforcer Claudie Massop in the 2024 film Bob Marley: One Love biopic. He was reportedly shot in Waterford, St. Catherine, Jamaica, at the age of 47. He rubbed shoulders with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when they arrived at the movie's Jamaican premiere. Another person is reported to have sustained injuries during the assault, which remains under investigation by St Catherine South Police. Sources say the reggae and dancehall artist, vocalist and composer was walking down a street with a companion on Saturday, August 1, when they were attacked by armed criminals travelling in a vehicle. One of the attackers allegedly exited the car and unleashed gunfire on the duo and Ras was shot several times before they fled in the motor.  Anambra Government Assures Residents of Preparedness to Fight Flood

The Anambra State Government has assured residents that adequate measures have been put in place to mitigate against the impact of possible flood incidents during the 2026 rainy season.


Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim gave the assurance during a stakeholders' engagement meeting held at the Government House, Awka.


Dr. Ibezim said that based on experiences and lessons learned from previous flood disasters, the state government has commenced comprehensive preparations involving relevant stakeholders across flood-prone local government areas.


Describing flooding as a recurring emergency that has become a yearly challenge, the Deputy Governor called on the Federal Government to construct dams and dredge rivers across the country to reduce the devastating effects of flooding.


He noted that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has recorded almost zero mortality from flood disasters due to proactive measures and effective emergency response mechanisms.


Dr. Ibezim also urged emergency responders and other stakeholders to prioritize their own safety while carrying out rescue operations during emergencies.


Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Mr. Ifeanyi Chinweze and his OgbaruLGA counterpart, Mr. Kenneth Akwauobi, disclosed that their areas had commenced the desilting of drainage channels to improve water flow and reduce flooding.


They appealed to both the Federal and State Governments to provide the necessary logistics and support needed to effectively respond to flood emergencies and assist affected residents.


In her remarks, the Deputy Director of Administration, Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mrs. Ndidi Omega, advised residents of riverine communities to remain vigilant and be prepared to relocate to safer grounds whenever water levels begin to rise.


Also speaking, the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar expressed confidence that the stakeholders' engagement in Awka would enhance preparedness, reduce the impact of recurrent flooding, and protect lives and livelihoods in line with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.


 In attendance the  representatives of key agencies, including the Police, Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Fire Service, Ministry ofh Health, Red Cross Society, and mayors of riverine local government areas attended the engagement.
