Trump administration halts border wall well drilling in New Mexico after ranchers raise water concerns  The Trump administration has ordered contractors building a border wall in New Mexico to stop drilling new wells after ranchers raised concerns that groundwater pumping for construction could worsen drought conditions and threaten their livestock. The move comes as crews work to expand border barriers across four states as part of President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda. The project has received billions in federal funding and has faced criticism from residents, environmental groups and local officials over various impacts. U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which oversees construction, has said water is needed for concrete production, road construction and controlling dust.  Army recruiter pleads guilty to stealing identities of recruits in loan fraud scheme worth hundreds of thousands of dollars

A New Jersey Army recruiter has admitted to stealing the identities of seven prospective recruits in a scheme that fraudulently generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans and credit card accounts.

Former Sgt. 1st Class Jane Crosby, 35, pleaded guilty in federal court to bank fraud and aggravated identity theft after using personal information from would-be recruits to obtain roughly $266,000 in loans and credit lines, as well as to withdraw funds and deposit fraudulent checks.

Authorities said the scheme took place between September and December 2023 while Crosby was assigned to a recruiting station in East Orange, New Jersey. During that time, she allegedly used sensitive documents provided by potential recruits, including passports, driver’s licenses, and Social Security cards, to open financial accounts without their knowledge.

Once the accounts were created, Crosby is accused of using them to apply for additional loans and credit cards and carrying out unauthorized banking transactions. In some cases, calls were made from her office phone to a credit union, where the caller allegedly impersonated victims to gain access to their accounts.

The recruiter is also accused of using credit union accounts designed for future service members as part of the scheme.

Crosby faces up to 30 years in prison for bank fraud, an additional 2 years for aggravated identity theft, and substantial financial penalties.

Officials have not yet publicly detailed her current status with the Army.
