As the world marks International Albinism Awareness Day, the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu wants Nigerians to help raise awareness on the rights, dignity, health, and wellbeing of persons living with albinism.
In her message marking the 2026 International Albinism Awareness Day, with the theme, “Demanding Our Rights: Protect Our Skin, Preserve Our Lives,” notes that persons living with albinism still face discrimination, stigma, and health challenges, particularly the high risk of skin cancer due to prolonged exposure to the sun and limited access to sunscreen, protective clothing, regular skin screenings and treatment services.
The First Lady therefore enjoins Nigerians to strengthen inclusion, protect the rights of persons with albinism, promote access to healthcare services and create a society where every individual is treated with fairness, love, respect, and equal opportunity.
