JD Vance says 'The View' 'defied' his expectations, reveals what Joy Behar told him off-camera

Vice President J.D. Vance shared a surprising moment from his appearance on The View, revealing that co-host Joy Behar complimented him off-camera, saying he was “pretty good for a Republican.” Vance recounted the exchange later on Fox News’ Gutfeld!, noting that the remark was far more positive than he expected.

He described the overall atmosphere on the show as less hostile than anticipated, joking that while he braced for harsh treatment, the panel was only “a little bit vicious.”

During the discussion, Vance addressed criticism from the hosts, particularly around immigration policies under President Donald Trump. Co-hosts Sarah Haines and Ana Navarro pressed him on the issue, framing their concerns through the lens of Christian values and family responsibilities.

Vance also used the appearance to promote his new book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, while acknowledging his past opposition to Trump and explaining why he now supports him, calling Trump a “very successful president.”

The exchange included moments of humor and tension, with Whoopi Goldberg labeling Vance a racist a comment he had expected from another co-host.

Despite the tough questions, Vance set a civil tone from the start, walking onstage to applause and joking about his appearance.

His media tour this week has centered on defending Trump’s Iran peace deal, a policy that has drawn skepticism from some Republicans and could influence Vance’s political trajectory.
