 U.S announces visa curbs for some foreign nationals in South Africa Secretary of State Marco Rubio ‌said on Tuesday the U.S. government was announcing a new visa restriction ​policy targeting some foreign nationals ​in South Africa. The policy targets "foreign ⁠nationals who are responsible for, ​or complicit in, the enactment or ​implementation of laws or policies that enable uncompensated land seizures, race-based discrimination, and/or ​the incitement of imminent violence ​against members of minority ethnic or racial ‌groups ⁠in South Africa," Rubio said in a statement. "The South African government has not adequately addressed the ​previously laid ​out ⁠concerns," Rubio said, Reuters reported. Relations between Washington and Pretoria have ​soured since the start of ​Donald ⁠Trump's second term, with the U.S. president criticizing the country ⁠for ​its policies aimed at ​addressing racial inequality.

 LAGOS HEALTH DISTRICT III URGES VIGILANCE, PREVENTIVE ACTION AGAINST EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE 


The Lagos State Government, through Health District III, on Tuesday, called on residents of Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures against Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).


According to a statement issued and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, EVD is caused by Ebola viruses and can lead to severe illness and death if not managed promptly.


Dr. Adeleke added that the District is proactively sensitising communities to reduce the risk and protect public health, stressing that the EVD spreads primarily through direct contact with the blood, saliva, vomit or other bodily fluids of an infected person or animal.


She said that in order to prevent the transmission, residents are advised to avoid contact with sick individuals, dead bodies, and wild animals such as bats and monkeys, among others. She added that residents should maintain personal hygiene, use hand sanitisers always, and avoid the consumption of undercooked meat. 


In her words, “Although there is no confirmed Ebola outbreak in Nigeria at this time, vigilance, prompt reporting, adherence to infection prevention measures, and community awareness remain essential to protecting lives and preventing the spread of the disease. As such, Health District III is working with relevant agencies to strengthen surveillance, public awareness, and emergency preparedness across Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe.
