Singer Muni Long revealed on Good Morning America that she underwent a double lung transplant after leaving Brandy and Monica’s The Boy Is Mine tour in 2025. Diagnosed with lupus in 2014, the Grammy winner recalled falling ill during the tour, developing pneumonia, and barely finishing her final show.
Soon after, she collapsed at home and woke up in the hospital, where doctors told her she had only a week to live without surgery.
Long admitted she initially hesitated to undergo the transplant, worried about how it might affect her voice. However, she said her son inspired her to prioritize survival and quality of life over vanity.
Six months after the operation, she reported feeling “fabulous,” with no symptoms or infections, and shared that she also underwent vocal surgery.
Though her voice now sounds different, she believes it may be stronger, even if she isn’t yet ready to perform live.
Reflecting on her journey, Long explained that she had long sensed something was wrong, describing constant coughing and fatigue while trying to maintain her career. She has since used her platform to raise awareness about lupus and the challenges of performing with chronic illness.
Her latest single, The Riches, was recorded before her health crisis, and she continues to express gratitude for the support of Brandy, Monica, and her fans.
Long’s story underscores resilience, reminding others that perseverance and family can guide difficult choices.
