Serena Williams' husband addresses critics over White House UFC event Alexis Ohanian, husband of tennis star Serena Williams, faced backlash after attending President Trump’s 80th birthday celebration at the White House, which doubled as a UFC event staged by Dana White’s TKO group. The spectacle drew criticism when fighter Josh Hokit used his post-fight interview to make a vile slur about former First Lady Michelle Obama.  Ohanian, who co-founded Reddit and now owns several sports teams, stayed silent for days before finally condemning the remark on social media, insisting he had already left the event when it was made. In his statement, Ohanian explained that he attended at the invitation of UFC’s parent company and emphasized his past decision to resign from Reddit in protest against hate-filled communities. He also noted he was leaving the venue early due to jet lag from traveling between Europe and the U.S. to support Williams’ tennis comeback.  While he expressed r...

PFN Rejects Claims Linking Nationwide Prayer Programme to RCCG, Pastor Adeboye

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has dismissed as “false, misleading, and entirely baseless” allegations that its recent nationwide prayer programme was organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) or its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

In a statement issued by its National Secretary, Bishop David Bakare, the PFN clarified that the initiative was conceived, directed, and executed solely under its own authority.

“It is deeply unfortunate for anyone to attempt to attribute the programme to Pastor E.A. Adeboye or the Redeemed Christian Church of God,” Bakare said. “The RCCG never called for any protest. The programme was entirely a PFN initiative.”

The fellowship emphasised that all directives, instructions, and operational decisions originated from its leadership, with participating churches, including RCCG, simply complying as responsible members of the Pentecostal community.

Bakare noted that the final day of the programme coincided with Pentecost Sunday, a Christian event observed globally across denominations and nations, and not peculiar to any single church or country.

He revealed that an earlier proposal for public processions and placards was suspended due to security considerations. The fellowship expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise, describing it as successful in mobilising prayers for the nation.

“We are grateful to God that the programme was successful and widely embraced,” Bakare stated. “If there are individuals who believe alternative approaches should have been adopted, they are free to organise lawful initiatives of their own rather than spreading unfounded allegations and misinformation.”

The PFN urged Christians and Nigerians to reject misinformation and instead promote unity, peace, and national progress.

The three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme was announced in May in response to worsening insecurity, bloodshed, economic hardship, and concerns over the country’s political future ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a related remark, the Chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the PFN, Rev. O.T. Opatola, appealed to political leaders across the country to prioritise ending killings, banditry, and terrorism over electoral ambitions.
