POLICE IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE, WERE FORCED TO SHO-OT 5 PIT BULLS AFTER A WOMAN'S DESPERATE SCREAMS WERE REPORTED.(PHOTO).

Police in Nashville, Tennessee, were forced to shoot 5 pit bulls after a woman's desperate screams were reported. 

Neighbors near a home on the corner of North 14th Street and McKennie Avenue made numerous disturbing calls to 911 from the East Nashville neighborhood on Monday evening. 

Each caller described hearing frantic and blood curdling screams coming from inside of the home. 

Officers with the Nashville Metro Police Department rushed to the scene and immediately heard what sounded like a woman in a very obvious fight for her life. 

Officers rushed to the home to determine the cause of her distress but were met with a locked door.

With zero time to spare in the situation, officers forced entry into the home.

Once inside, they were confronted with a gruesome scene. Five pit bulls were actively engaged in a frenzied attack on a woman who was struggling for her life.

The severity and ferociousness of the attack was reportedly apparent to the officers. The dogs had to be stopped immediately. Having no other recourse and with the victim's life on the line, as well as the officer's safety, the decision was made to neutralize the pit bulls. 

Officers used their service pistols to shoot and k*ll the five dogs. 

They were then able to rush to the aid of the female victim. Medics arrived shortly after, and the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The victim's current condition is unknown at this time.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the attack. It is not clear if the victim lived in the home or who the dogs belonged to.

It has recently been announced that an investigation is active pertaining to the officer's actions. 

The victim's identity is not released at this time. We do hope she has a full recovery.
