Redeemed Christian Church of God Responds to Viral Claims About E. A. Adeboye

Redeemed Christian Church of God has released an official statement defending its General Overseer, E. A. Adeboye, against what it described as false narratives and misleading claims circulating online.

In the statement shared through the church’s public relations platform on Tuesday, June 2, the church condemned what it called deliberate misrepresentations and agenda-driven commentaries targeted at Pastor Adeboye amid ongoing concerns about insecurity in Nigeria.

The church specifically denied claims suggesting that Adeboye campaigned for the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

According to RCCG:

“Pastor Adeboye has always encouraged members of the church to get their PVCs and vote for anyone of their choice; he has always maintained a neutral stance on political parties as members of the church are members of various political parties.”

The church also reacted to viral reports claiming the cleric called off a planned protest following the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State.

Responding to the allegation, RCCG described the reports as false and explained that Pastor Adeboye merely communicated instructions issued by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).

The statement read:

“Pastor Adeboye only communicated the instruction of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to members of the RCCG on the updated plan to have the grand finale of the three-day prayer programme in a centralised venue and hold a rally around the venue. This was communicated by PFN to all churches under PFN in Nigeria.”

RCCG further rejected claims that the cleric has remained silent internationally on issues affecting Nigeria.

According to the church, Pastor Adeboye has repeatedly spoken about matters including insecurity, corruption, governance, economic hardship, elections, and leadership, but often prefers to address such topics through prayer, counsel, and moral guidance instead of partisan political confrontations.

The church additionally dismissed suggestions that Adeboye has the authority to direct military operations or order the rescue of kidnapped victims, stressing that he is not the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
