The Sokoto State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected drug trafficker and successfully foiled Bandits attack in parts of the State.
A Statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command DSP Ahmad Rufa'i indicates that the Patrol Team attached to Bado Division intercepted two suspects riding an unregistered Motorcycle along the Kebbi-Sokoto Road during a routine stop-and-search operation.
It adds that a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a large quantity of suspected Cannabis Sativa and other controlled substances, including Axzol, Benthexol, BP 5mg and D5 Tablets.
One of the suspects, Ummaru Abubakar Gugare of Bagarawa in Bodinga Local Government Area, was arrested, while his accomplice escaped and currently being tracked by Security operatives.
In a separate operation, Police operatives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit responded to a distress call following an attack by armed bandits on Zabori, Tambaranga and Gidan Yero Villages in Wamakko Local Government Area.
The operatives strategically blocked the Bandits escape route at Abdalo forest in Gwadabawa Local Government Area and engaged them in a gun duel, forcing the criminals to flee into the forest with suspected gunshot wounds.
One suspect, identified as Musa Usman of Damba Village in Illela Local Government Area, was arrested during the operation.
Also recovered were eleven Cows and Five Sheeps believed to have been rustled by the Bandits.
The Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, commended the vigilance of Officers involved in both operations and reaffirmed the Command's commitment to tackling Drug trafficking, banditry and Cattle rustling across the State.
While investigations into both cases are ongoing, efforts have been intensified to apprehend fleeing suspects and dismantle criminal networks operating within the State.
