Trailer Falls from Nkpor Bridge in Anambra, Crashes into Vehicles, 2 Injured

By Doris Onyekachi

Two persons sustained injuries on Saturday 13th June, 2026 after a trailer lost control, fell from Nkpor Bridge, and crashed into several vehicles below.

Eyewitnesses said the truck suffered brake failure while descending the bridge. It broke through the railings, plunged onto the road beneath, and rammed into cars passing underneath.

The Federal Road Safety Corps operatives and rescue officials arrived quickly at the scene. The two injured victims were evacuated to a nearby hospital where their condition was described as stable. No deaths were recorded.

Vehicles caught in the crash suffered extensive damage. The wreckage caused heavy traffic gridlock along the busy Nkpor-Onitsha axis for hours before officials cleared the road.

The Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command, Margaret Onabe, urged truck drivers to carry out routine brake checks and avoid overloading. “Nkpor Bridge handles heavy traffic daily. Vehicle maintenance and caution are non-negotiable,” she said.
