 Western countries warn of atrocities, imminent RSF escalation in Sudan's al-Obeid Dozens of countries including Britain, France and Germany raised the alarm at the ‌U.N. Human Rights Council on Thursday that Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces could imminently escalate an assault on the central Sudanese city of al-Obeid, possibly resulting in large-scale atrocities. “We are deeply concerned at the risk of imminent escalation on the ground, leaving approximately 500,000 civilians at risk of falling victim to large-scale atrocities, including ​more than 100,000 internally displaced persons,” Tormod Endresen, the ambassador for Norway, told the council in Geneva. Norway shared a joint ​statement calling on the RSF to immediately cease its assault on al-Obeid.  KATSINA STATE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES THE PASSING OF RETIRED MAJOR GENERAL RABE ABUBAKAR.


Katsina state government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who had been in bandits' captivity for several weeks.


A statement made available to newsmen by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu'azu, confirmed the development.


According to the statement, the retired General died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension.


It described his abduction and subsequent death as not only a loss to his family and Katsina state, but also a monumental loss to the nation.


The statement conveyed Governor Dikko Umaru Radda's deepest condolences to the family of the late General and Nigerians at large.


Governor Radda described the incident as a dark moment and a reminder of the urgent need for a collective and intensified effort against criminal elements threatening the peace and security of communities.


The Governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.


The statement also assured residents of the state's unwavering resolve to eradicate banditry and guarantee the safety of lives and property across Katsina State.
