 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  KATSINA STATE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES THE PASSING OF RETIRED MAJOR GENERAL RABE ABUBAKAR.


Katsina state government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who had been in bandits' captivity for several weeks.


A statement made available to newsmen by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu'azu, confirmed the development.


According to the statement, the retired General died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension.


It described his abduction and subsequent death as not only a loss to his family and Katsina state, but also a monumental loss to the nation.


The statement conveyed Governor Dikko Umaru Radda's deepest condolences to the family of the late General and Nigerians at large.


Governor Radda described the incident as a dark moment and a reminder of the urgent need for a collective and intensified effort against criminal elements threatening the peace and security of communities.


The Governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.


The statement also assured residents of the state's unwavering resolve to eradicate banditry and guarantee the safety of lives and property across Katsina State.
