 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  ALICK MACHESO PULLS OUT OF SOUTH AFRICA SHOW CITING XENOPHOBIC UNREST


Top Zimbabwean musician Alick Macheso has withdrawn from the Silala Festival in South Africa, scheduled for 11 July and featuring leading Mzansi artists including Makhadzi. 


The decision comes amid reports of xenophobic unrest and protests targeting foreign nationals in the country.

This is a bold statement following the backlash that Makhadzi received over alleged comments over the unrest in Zimbabwe and her upcoming show at Macheso show set for Alex Sports Club in Harare.


In a statement released on Saturday night, Macheso said he would not be part of the event. His full, unedited statement reads:


Official Statement!!!


We regret to inform you Mafunzi wa Mishumo, Varungu vedu, Amakhiwa , our fans, supporters, and festival attendees that we are unable to participate in this year's Silala Festival. This decision has been necessitated by the current security situation, protests, and unrest affecting foreign nationals in South Africa, circumstances which are entirely beyond our control.


 Just for the record, ALL contractual and logistical arrangements had been completed, and we were fully prepared to attend the event. However, the safety and well-being of everyone involved remains our highest priority. We extend our sincere gratitude to the organizers and to all those who were looking forward to seeing us perform. We remain committed to joining you in the future once conditions improve and normality returns.


 We encourage everyone to promote peace, unity, tolerance, and mutual respect during these challenging times. Music transcends borders, and together we can build stronger and more inclusive communities.
