ANAMBRA RESIDENTS KEY INTO SOLUDO'S ENVIRONMENTAL EMERGENCY AHEAD OF STATEWIDE SANITATION EXERCISE

By MaryAnn Chukwuma.

Residents of Awka, the Anambra State capital, have commenced extensive environmental sanitation ahead of the statewide cleanup ordered by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, demonstrating strong support for the government's environmental emergency initiative.

The early compliance follows Governor Soludo's declaration of a state of emergency on the environment and the total lockdown scheduled for Saturday, July 4, to facilitate a comprehensive sanitation exercise statewide.

The exercise focuses on desilting drainage channels, clearing gutters, removing waste materials, and opening blocked waterways to ensure the free flow of rainwater ahead of anticipated heavy rainfall across the state.

Across several communities in Awka on Friday, July 3, residents were seen already cleaning their surroundings, evacuating refuse, and clearing blocked drains in readiness for the government-directed environmental sanitation exercise.

The proactive response reflects increasing public awareness of the importance of environmental cleanliness in preventing flooding, protecting lives and property, and promoting healthier communities throughout Anambra State.

Governor Soludo's administration has consistently emphasized environmental sustainability as a critical component of its development agenda, urging residents to take collective responsibility for maintaining clean and flood-resilient communities.

The statewide sanitation exercise is expected to mobilize communities, government agencies, market associations, and other stakeholders towards restoring environmental order and reducing the devastating effects of flooding during the rainy season.

Residents have expressed their readiness to fully comply with the directive scheduled for Saturday, July 4 describing the initiative as timely and necessary for safeguarding public health, protecting infrastructure, and preserving the environment for present and future generations.

The widespread participation witnessed ahead of the official exercise underscores growing public confidence in Governor Soludo's environmental policies and reinforces the shared commitment to building a cleaner, greener, safer, and more resilient Anambra State.
