Anya Taylor-Joy says marriage to Malcolm McRae gave her a sense of security she never expected
Anya Taylor-Joy has shared new details about her marriage to musician Malcolm McRae, saying their relationship has given her a sense of stability she had not expected.
In an interview with Elle U.K., the actress said, "I don't want to sound smug, but I love him so much."
Taylor-Joy said having McRae as both her husband and best friend has changed the way she approaches life.
"To have a best friend who goes through life with you – it has given me a sense of security that I didn't really ever dream about," she said.
The Queen's Gambit star added that the relationship has made her more willing to take risks in her career because she knows she has a strong support system. She also said they spend much of their time laughing together.
The couple met at a music studio and later discovered they share the same birthday, April 16. They secretly married in New Orleans on April 1, 2022, before holding a second wedding celebration in Venice, Italy, in September 2023.
Taylor-Joy also spoke about how they stay connected when work keeps them apart. She said they check in with each other at the beginning and end of each day to talk about what adventures they've had.
The actress added that McRae uses a basic mobile phone and that she has largely stayed away from social media. According to Taylor-Joy, spending less time online has benefited her mental health and helped her stay present.
Although the couple kept their New Orleans wedding private at the time, Taylor-Joy marked their second anniversary in 2024 by sharing previously unseen photos and videos from the ceremony on Instagram.
Alongside the images, she wrote that she had secretly married "my best friend" and described the wedding day as a memory she will always cherish. She also joked about the anatomically correct heart-shaped cakes featured at the celebration.
