 Bandits Kill Six Abducted Southern Kaduna Residents Despite Ransom Payment

At least six residents of Kutaho Village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State have reportedly been killed by bandits while in captivity, despite the community paying a significant ransom for their release.

The victims were among several people kidnapped when armed bandits attacked the village on February 9, 2026.

According to sources familiar with the incident, those killed have been identified as Friday Agama, Kunama Dogo, Monday Tanko, Lami Williams, a man identified only as Pawpaw's brother, and another captive known as Catchiest, who reportedly died after suffering severe punishment from the kidnappers.

The sources also disclosed that two victims, Williams Ishaya and Iliya Dauda, have regained their freedom and are currently receiving medical treatment in Kachia for injuries and trauma sustained during their captivity.

Two other abductees, identified as Shedrack and Daniel Ganga, were also said to have been released and were reportedly on their way home at the time of filing this report.

Residents described the killings as heartbreaking, noting that the community had raised a substantial ransom by contributing funds and selling personal belongings in a desperate effort to secure the release of all those abducted.

The incident has renewed concerns over the continued activities of bandit groups operating in Southern Kaduna and Birnin Gwari, with residents questioning the effectiveness of efforts aimed at rehabilitating so-called repentant bandits.

As of the time of this report, the Kaduna State Police Command and other security agencies had not officially confirmed the reported deaths or provided updates on the released captives.

Community leaders have urged the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen efforts to protect vulnerable communities, rescue kidnapped victims, and ensure those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
