South Africa says US misrepresented its policies after visa curbs South Africa's foreign ministry said on Wednesday that it ‌had noted with concern U.S. visa restrictions on some people from South Africa announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio a day earlier. The foreign ministry added in a statement that the U.S. announcement aligned with "the mischaracterisation of South Africa's domestic policies by fringe groups". "We maintain that challenges in our bilateral relations with the USA can only be resolved by constructive engagement through state actors on both sides of the diplomatic channel not unilateral acts," the statement said, Reuters reported.  Bandits Kill Traveller On Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road, Residents Raise Fresh Security Concerns

Suspected bandits have reportedly killed one traveller and injured another during an attack along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road.

According to a resident of Birnin Gwari who spoke to SaharaReporters, the attack occurred at about 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The assailants allegedly killed the victim, stole his motorcycle, and shot his brother, identified as Mallam Haruna, who was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Residents say armed bandits remain active along the highway, citing recent attacks, including the killing of a commercial driver said to be a grandson of a district head in the Birnin Gwari Emirate and the abduction of passengers travelling between Kaduna and Birnin Gwari.

Meanwhile, concerns continue to grow over the security situation in parts of Birnin Gwari despite ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at restoring peace in the area.

Residents of Kuyello, Kutemeshi, Tabbanni, Dogon Dawa and Kazage communities, under the banner of the Kuyello Progressives, have appealed to both the Birnin Gwari Local Government and the Kaduna State Government to urgently address persistent insecurity and the destruction of farmlands.

In a statement signed by Mallam Abdullah, the group alleged that herders continue to graze livestock on cultivated farmlands, resulting in the destruction of thousands of hectares of crops and causing severe economic hardship for farming families.

The residents also alleged that killings, kidnappings, theft and sexual violence have continued despite reconciliation efforts, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the peace initiative.

The group called on the authorities and relevant stakeholders to take immediate action to protect lives, property and livelihoods, while expressing hope that lasting peace and justice would be restored in the affected communities.
