Charlie Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, attended the preliminary hearing for the man accused of killing her husband, appearing in court for the first time since the fatal shooting nearly 10 months ago.
Erika, 37, was joined by Charlie Kirk's parents at the hearing on Monday, July 6, as proceedings began against Tyler Robinson, the 23-year-old charged in connection with Kirk's death at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.
According to the Associated Press, Donald Trump Jr. was also present in court, while Robinson's parents were seated a few rows behind the Kirk family.
At the start of the hearing, the judge acknowledged the emotional nature of the case and asked those in attendance to maintain order and avoid displaying support or opposition toward either side.
The week-long preliminary hearing is expected to outline much of the prosecution's evidence and will determine whether prosecutors have presented sufficient evidence for Robinson to stand trial on an aggravated murder charge.
Before the hearing, Erika Kirk, Charlie's parents and his sister released a joint statement, saying: "Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children.
"We remain deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and kindness we have received. This outpouring has sustained us during the darkest days of our lives."
Following Charlie Kirk's death, Erika publicly addressed the case during his memorial service at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Sept. 21.
"My husband, Charlie, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life," she said. "That young man ... I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it's what Charlie would do."
