Former President Joe Biden has announced a new memoir, “Promise Me, America,” which will be released shortly after the November midterm elections.
Biden said the book will focus on major decisions made during his presidency, including his administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, economic policies, efforts to protect democracy following the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and foreign policy challenges involving Afghanistan and Ukraine.
The memoir will also examine Biden’s decision to seek another term in office and his eventual choice to end his reelection campaign in 2024.
Biden said the book centers on his belief in the promise of America and the responsibility to honor the sacrifices of previous generations.
The timing of the release could place renewed attention on Biden as Democrats seek to focus voters on President Donald Trump’s record ahead of the midterm elections.
Since leaving office, Biden said he has spent more time with family and has been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, which he described as progressing well.
Biden ended his 2024 presidential campaign following a widely criticized debate performance that raised concerns about his age and ability to serve another term. Former Vice President Kamala Harris later reflected on the decision in her own memoir, questioning the circumstances surrounding Biden’s choice to continue his campaign.
Former first lady Jill Biden also discussed the period surrounding the debate in her memoir, expressing concerns about what may have contributed to her husband’s performance.
“Promise Me, America” will be Biden’s third major book, following “Promises to Keep” and “Promise Me, Dad,” which focused on the death of his son Beau Biden from brain cancer.
