LAGOS STRENGTHENS IMPLEMENTATION OF LSDP 2052, UNVEILS TRACKING DASHBOARD TO DRIVE ACCOUNTABILITY
The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget (MEPB), has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the implementation of the State's Development Plan (LSDP) 2052 with the unveiling of the LSDP 2052 Tracking Dashboard.
The tracking dashboard is a strategic performance management tool designed to strengthen accountability, improve inter-agency coordination and enhance evidence-based decision-making across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The commitment was reiterated at the Stakeholders' Parley on the Implementation of the Lagos State Development Plan (LSDP) 2052 Initiatives, themed "Achieving Lagos' Vision: Africa's Model Mega-City, a Global Economic and Financial Hub that is Safe, Secure, Functional and Productive," held on Tuesday at the Protea Hotel, Alausa, Ikeja.
The engagement brought together Accounting Officers and senior officials from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to deepen stakeholders' understanding of the implementation framework of the Development Plan, align institutional priorities and reinforce collaboration towards achieving the State's long-term development aspirations.
Welcoming participants, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, described the LSDP 2052 as the State's strategic blueprint for sustainable development and transformational governance, noting that it provides clear priorities, measurable outcomes, and defined responsibilities for MDAs.
She emphasised that Accounting Officers occupy a critical position in translating the vision of the Development Plan into measurable outcomes through effective planning, prudent resource management, timely project execution and continuous performance monitoring. She urged participants to actively share experiences, identify implementation constraints and contribute innovative solutions that would strengthen institutional performance and accelerate the delivery of the State's development priorities.
In his keynote address, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Lekan Balogun, described the LSDP 2052 as the collective vision of Lagos over the next three decades, stressing that its successful implementation requires disciplined execution, sustained financing, effective collaboration and robust monitoring.
"The Lagos State Development Plan 2052 is more than a planning document. It is the collective vision of Lagos for the next three decades. It is our strategic commitment to building Africa's Model Megacity - a city that is globally competitive, economically resilient, socially inclusive, environmentally sustainable and driven by effective governance," the Commissioner stated.
He noted that the unveiling of the LSDP 2052 Tracking Dashboard represents a major milestone in institutionalising evidence-based planning and performance management. According to him, the platform will enable the government to monitor implementation progress in real-time, identify bottlenecks early, and objectively measure performance, supporting informed decision-making.
George reiterated that planning and budgeting must remain inseparable, with development priorities adequately reflected in annual budgets to ensure value for public expenditure and improved service delivery for residents.
Calling for greater commitment from all stakeholders, the Commissioner urged MDAs to strengthen inter-ministerial collaboration, improve data quality and reporting, eliminate implementation delays and embrace collective ownership of the Development Plan.
"The future of Lagos will not be determined by the quality of our plans alone. It will be determined by the quality of our execution. Great cities are built through consistency, collaboration, accountability and disciplined implementation," he said, urging every MDA to recommit itself to delivering its assigned initiatives with excellence, professionalism and measurable impact.
Participants at the parley reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships and promoting a results-driven public service to ensure the successful implementation of the Lagos State Development Plan 2052. As the State's long-term strategic blueprint, the Plan provides a comprehensive roadmap for inclusive economic growth, infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, social welfare and institutional excellence, while aligning government policies and investments with the vision of building a globally competitive, safe, secure, functional and prosperous Lagos.
