 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

Magistrate Orders 10 Strokes of Cane for Bus Conductor Who Slapped Passenger in Kaduna


A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old bus conductor, Abubakar Shehu, to 10 strokes of the cane for assaulting a female passenger over a dispute about transportation fare.


Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel delivered the judgment after Shehu pleaded guilty to the charge of assault. The magistrate said the court had been lenient because the convict admitted the offence and did not waste the court’s time. He warned Shehu to refrain from similar conduct in future, stressing that the court would not treat such behaviour lightly again.


Emmanuel also ordered the convict to write an undertaking to be of good behaviour.


Prosecutor Inspector Chidi Leo told the court that the offence occurred on July 24 at Kawo in Kaduna. According to the prosecutor, Shehu had an altercation with the complainant, Hadiza Rabiu, over the transport fare and slapped her twice on the face. The act, Leo said, contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
