Meghan Markle insists that she doesn't want to be called 'Duchess' on MasterChef Australia

Meghan Markle made her debut on MasterChef Australia during a special episode filmed in April, choosing to be introduced simply as “Meghan” rather than by her Duchess title. Judge Poh Ling Yeow welcomed her warmly, but when asked if she should be addressed as “Duchess,” Meghan quickly clarified that she preferred her first name.

This decision followed reports that she and her team had objected to promotional material describing her as “royalty,” reflecting her sensitivity about being seen as trading on her royal status during the Australian tour with Prince Harry.

Once on set, Meghan expressed her affection for Australia, recalling that she and Harry had announced her pregnancy with Archie during a visit eight years earlier. She shared anecdotes about her children’s eating habits, proudly noting that both Archie and Lilibet enjoy Brussels sprouts.

Contestants were then challenged to prepare a “dish fit for a Duchess” using ingredients she selected, including honey, macadamia nuts, citrus, celeriac, and edible flowers.

Her enthusiasm was evident as she praised finalist Petro Papathomas’s inventive celeriac ice cream, calling it Michelin‑star quality and applauding his creativity.

The episode also highlighted Meghan’s personal tastes and family life. She revealed Harry’s preference for hearty British fare, while she herself favors lighter California‑style dishes with citrus and spice.

Meghan delighted in a surprise FaceTime call from Harry during the judging, introducing him to the panel and showing him the contestants’ creations.

Their playful exchange added a personal touch to the broadcast, reinforcing Meghan’s image as both a supportive partner and a passionate food lover.
