NOLAN WELLS’ MOTHER RESPONDS AFTER RECEIVING ANONYMOUS HATE MAIL FOLLOWING SON’S DEATH ON HORN ISLAND. (PHOTO).

Nolan Wells’ mother responds after receiving anonymous hate mail following son’s death on Horn Island

Nolan Wells’ mother has responded after receiving an anonymous letter containing criticism following the death of her 18-year-old son.

Christine Wonsley shared a photo of the mail on Facebook and addressed the sender, who did not include a return address.

“Whoever sent this to my home, may the good Lord have mercy on your soul,” Christine wrote. “Bold enough to send this crap but not bold enough to list your return address.”

The letter appeared to feature a photo of Christine during a press conference with her husband, Elmore Wonsley, alongside civil rights attorney Ben Crump and Rev. Al Sharpton, who had placed their hands on her shoulders.

The sender added drawings of arrows pointing from Crump and Sharpton’s eyes toward Christine, along with several dollar signs.

Christine said her family was already dealing with the loss of their son while trying to find answers about what happened.

“This is America where a grieving mother and father have to deal with this type of behavior because we asked a simple question of what happened to our son and accepted all the help we could get to find answers,” she wrote.

“Please go touch some grass.”

Nolan, a community college student and football player, was reported missing on the evening of July 4 after travelling by boat with friends to Horn Island, located off the coast of Mississippi, for a holiday celebration.

Authorities later found his body nearly two weeks after he disappeared.

The Jackson County sheriff and some of Nolan’s friends said he had remained on the island after meeting a young woman and did not have his phone with him.

While the sheriff previously said there were no initial signs of foul play, Nolan’s parents have questioned the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death. They have started their own investigation with the help of attorney Ben Crump.

An official autopsy, an independent autopsy and toxicology results are still pending. The medical examiner has said they will not speculate before official findings are released.

“If he’s drowning, nobody sees him drown? Nobody offers assistance? Nobody tries to help?” Crump said last week.

Nolan’s parents have also disputed suggestions that their son would have made a decision they considered unsafe.

“I know he wouldn’t do that. I preached that to him every day … You’re lying to me,” Elmore Wonsley told TheGrio while discussing the claim that Nolan chose to remain on the island instead of leaving with his friends.
