Norwegian Court Acquits Nigerian Midfielder Daniel Daga of Sexual Assault Charges
Former Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has been cleared of sexual assault charges by Norway’s Frostating Court of Appeal, paving the way for his return to first-team action with Molde FK.
The club announced the unanimous acquittal on Thursday, noting that while the judgment is not yet legally binding, Daga is now available for selection.
In March 2026, the 19-year-old was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison for committing a sexual act without consent. The incident was alleged to have occurred in April 2025, with Daga formally charged on December 19, 2025. Following the initial conviction, Molde FK suspended him indefinitely from first-team duties.
The Court of Appeal has now overturned the lower court’s verdict. Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, who consistently maintained the player’s innocence after the March sentencing, successfully filed the appeal.
In a statement posted on its website, Molde FK said:
“Daniel Daga is unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that has been dealt with by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Molde FK takes note of the verdict, although the judgment is not yet legally binding.”
The club added:
“The club recognises that this has been a serious and burdensome case for everyone who has been affected. Since the indictment was filed, Molde FK has made ongoing assessments based on the situation and the club’s responsibilities as an employer. Now that the Court of Appeal’s judgment has been delivered and Daniel Daga has been acquitted, we consider the employment situation to be clarified, and Daniel will be available for selection for Molde FK going forward.”
Daga, who represented Nigeria at the U-20 level with the Flying Eagles, joined Molde FK at the start of the 2025 season. Prior to his suspension, he had made 15 appearances for the club, scoring three goals.
