 U.S announces visa curbs for some foreign nationals in South Africa Secretary of State Marco Rubio ‌said on Tuesday the U.S. government was announcing a new visa restriction ​policy targeting some foreign nationals ​in South Africa. The policy targets "foreign ⁠nationals who are responsible for, ​or complicit in, the enactment or ​implementation of laws or policies that enable uncompensated land seizures, race-based discrimination, and/or ​the incitement of imminent violence ​against members of minority ethnic or racial ‌groups ⁠in South Africa," Rubio said in a statement. "The South African government has not adequately addressed the ​previously laid ​out ⁠concerns," Rubio said, Reuters reported. Relations between Washington and Pretoria have ​soured since the start of ​Donald ⁠Trump's second term, with the U.S. president criticizing the country ⁠for ​its policies aimed at ​addressing racial inequality.

 NSC INSPECTS PROPOSED SPORTS FACILITY SITE IN NNEWI AS OSUMUOH DESCRIBES PROJECT AS GAME CHANGER

The President General of Nzukọ Ọra Nnewi Town Union, Hon. Prince Jude Osumuoh, on 22 July, received a delegation from the National Sports Commission for inspection of a proposed sports facility site in Nnewi.


The inspection was conducted at the Nigeria Science and Technical College, Nnewi, where officials assessed the proposed location for sports infrastructure aimed at expanding grassroots sports development and youth engagement.


The proposed project includes a standard football pitch with pavilion, volleyball court, tennis court, and modern toilet facilities designed to improve sporting opportunities and encourage healthy recreational activities across the community.


Hon. Osumuoh described the project as a game changer for the Nnewi Ancient Kingdom, expressing confidence that it would unlock opportunities for talent discovery, youth empowerment, and sustainable community development.


He stated that the sports facilities would promote grassroots participation, nurture future champions, stimulate economic activities, and produce athletes capable of representing Anambra State and Nigeria in international sporting competitions. 


The President General acknowledged that the project was attracted through the efforts of an illustrious son of Nnewi, whose commitment to community development continues to attract meaningful federal interventions to the area. 


Accompanying the inspection team were Dr. Ebuka Ileka, APGA candidate for Nnewi North State House of Assembly, Hon. Amobi Adukwulu, and Hon. Izuchukwu Nwankwo, alongside other distinguished community leaders and stakeholders.


Stakeholders expressed optimism that the project would strengthen sports development, enhance youth inclusion, and further position Nnewi as a hub for grassroots sporting excellence and community-driven infrastructural advancement.
