State Department warns Americans abroad of heightened threats amid Middle East tensions and attacks on U.S interests

The State Department is warning Americans living overseas and traveling abroad to remain vigilant as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise and threats against U.S. facilities increase.

Officials said the security situation remains unpredictable and encouraged Americans, particularly those in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution, stay informed through local news reports and prepare for possible disruptions.

The advisory was issued after an Iranian attack in Jordan killed two U.S. service members and forced the medical evacuation of four others.

Iran has threatened retaliation following renewed U.S. strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure, including coastal surveillance sites, air defense systems, missile facilities and drone storage locations.

Iranian leaders have warned that further U.S. military action could bring additional consequences, while Iranian-backed groups have attempted attacks against U.S. interests and allied countries in the region.

Recent security incidents have affected travel and operations across parts of the Middle East, including evacuations at Jordan’s Aqaba airport and repeated missile and drone threats involving Kuwait International Airport.

The State Department warned that flight cancellations and temporary airspace closures could disrupt travel, and said groups aligned with Iran could target U.S. facilities, American citizens or locations associated with the United States worldwide.

Officials urged Americans abroad to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, which allows travelers to receive emergency alerts and stay connected with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
