Three Brothers Charged with Murder in Eswatini After Allegedly Beating Mother’s Boyfriend to Death

Three brothers have been charged with murder following the alleged brutal killing of their mother’s boyfriend in the Hhohho Region, police and court officials said.

The accused — Mlondi Mbuli, 25, Sakhelwe Mbuli, 18, and Lindani Mdziniso, 23 — appeared in the Mbabane Magistrates Court on suspicion of murdering Njabulo Ngwenya. The incident reportedly occurred on June 28, 2026, in Hholoshini.

Principal Magistrate Sfiso Vilakati ordered the three men to remain in custody until July 10, 2026, as prosecutors prepare to transfer the case to the High Court, which handles serious criminal matters such as murder.

According to investigators, the suspects allegedly attacked Ngwenya with bricks, stones, sticks, punches, and repeated kicks, inflicting fatal injuries. Police believe the assault stemmed from accusations that Ngwenya was having a romantic affair with the brothers’ biological mother.

The matter came to light when Sibongile Motsa discovered Ngwenya’s body inside her sister’s home around 1 a.m. on June 28. Motsa alerted the Royal Eswatini Police Service, prompting an investigation that led to the swift arrest of the three suspects.

Court documents presented during the initial hearing outlined the circumstances of the discovery and the subsequent arrests. The accused were remanded in custody following their first court appearance, pending further proceedings and the formal transfer of the case to the High Court.

Authorities have released limited additional details beyond the information disclosed in court. The case has generated significant public interest across Eswatini as the investigation continues.

Eswatini, a landlocked southern African nation bordered by South Africa and Mozambique, was formerly known as Swaziland until it was officially renamed in 2018 by King Mswati III. Under the country’s judicial system, serious offences such as murder are typically escalated from the Magistrates Court to the High Court after initial proceedings.
