Trump on LeBron James as he joins Philadelphia: 'Maybe he's a racist'

In the Oval Office, President Donald Trump was asked to weigh in on NBA legends LeBron James and Michael Jordan. He praised Jordan as a personal friend and golfing partner, calling him “a really good guy.”

When it came to James, however, Trump suggested the player might be racist or simply disliked him, adding that he only supports people who support him, which is why he sided with Jordan.

His remarks coincided with the headline-making news of James signing a two-year, $8 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers after leaving the Los Angeles Lakers.

The tension between Trump and James is longstanding. Back in 2018, James criticized Trump, saying he didn’t care about the American people and describing his rhetoric as both laughable and frightening.

He urged fans and communities to resist normalizing Trump’s behavior, emphasizing the importance of calling out harmful speech. Trump, in turn, lashed out at James, labeling him a “bum” after James defended Stephen Curry’s decision not to attend a White House championship celebration.

James has also spoken out about Trump’s handling of race issues, accusing him of emboldening racism during his presidency. He argued that Trump’s leadership gave people confidence to express discriminatory views openly, which he described as dangerous and pervasive.

This ongoing feud highlights the sharp divide between the two figures: Trump dismissing James with personal attacks, and James framing Trump’s influence as a threat to social progress.
